A penny for your thoughts: Stuart Dewin, Chartered Financial Planner & Director

Chartered Financial Planner and Director Stuart Dewin shares his love of the job and his favourite place in the world – a city captured in so many iconic films and TV shows.

Describe your role at Questa

As a Chartered Financial Planner and Director, I look after about 80 clients across the UK and also hold a management role within the firm.

I am a member of Questa’s Investment Committee where we research the most beneficial investment strategies and platforms for our clients.

Crucially, with such massive change within the financial planning sector during recent years, it’s also important to keep up to date with the latest developments and drill down into the detail to fully understand the implications to areas such as pensions.

The political situation at home, in Europe and across the world is also having a major impact on the investment landscape with elections in the Netherlands, France, Germany and possibly Italy in 2017 likely to create more periods of uncertainty.

What do you love about your job?

Helping clients achieve their aims and objectives. Explaining complicated matters in jargon free language so people can really understand the benefits of financial planning inspires me and, ultimately, creates great client relationships.

What’s your financial top tip?

It’s really useful to question what you want to achieve – your short, medium and long term financial goals. So, for example, if you have a short-term goal, then keep your investments in cash, if it’s longer term, look at different investment opportunities. Above all, maintain your discipline and don’t get distracted by market movements.

What’s your favourite place in the world?

I’ve been to New York four times, the last trip was for my 40th birthday. I love the buzz of the place. It’s also wonderful to see so many places captured in films and TV.

Name three things you can’t live without?

Family, holidays and sport!
