The presentation, covered the fundamentals of inheritance tax, including the current thresholds, the impact of frozen allowances until 2030, and upcoming legislative changes.

The talk also explained the role of life insurance, charitable giving, and trust arrangements in estate planning, alongside advice on pensions, children’s savings, and ownership structures for property.

Attendees were given guidance on property ownership models and how these affect care cost assessments and estate distribution. The session concluded with practical advice encouraging early action, open conversations within families, and seeking appropriate professional advice.

Molly Clayton, Chartered Financial Planner at Questa, said: “Thanks you for Weeton Women’s Institute for inviting us. We know inheritance planning can feel uncomfortable to talk about, but it really does make a difference to have those conversations early.

“I hope the members will feel a little more confident to make smart, informed choices – and avoid leaving their families with any financial headaches down the line.”

Gadsden Coupe offered insights on the legal aspects of estate planning, including the importance of writing a will and establishing powers of attorney.

Emma Gadsden, partner at Gadsden Coupe Solicitors, said: “Thank you to the Weeton Women’s Institute for inviting us. Making a will or power of attorney can make a big difference. It’s about making sure your wishes are respected, whatever happens. These are everyday steps people can take to protect what matters to them.”
