Questa Sponsored Duathlete Wins His First-Ever European Championship Title

By Questa

Questa sponsored Neil Hunter from Great Harwood has been crowned European Champion in the 60+ age group at the 2025 European Standard Distance Duathlon Championships in Rumia, Poland.

Neil won the gold medal by finishing first in his age group, completing the race more than seven minutes ahead of his nearest rival. The competition took place on Sunday, 27 April 2025 and featured a 10km run, 40km bike ride, and a final 5km run around a flat, asphalt course centred at the MOSiR Rumia sports hall.

Neil completed the opening 10km run in 39 minutes and 11 seconds, followed by a 40km bike ride in 1 hour 5 minutes and 20 seconds, before finishing the final 5km run in 20 minutes and 15 seconds.

He recorded the fastest times in each of the three segments within his age group and led the race from start to finish.

Neil said: “It still feels a bit surreal being announced as European Champion – for a split second at the medal ceremony, I was looking around wondering who they meant! It’s been a long time coming after so many second places, so getting that gold feels like a real weight lifted.”

The event, part of the Europe Triathlon Duathlon Championships series, attracted Age Group athletes from across the continent. The standard distance race involved four laps for the initial 10km run, two laps for the 40km bike ride, and two laps for the final 5km run, all held in dry but windy conditions.

Neil’s win marks the first time he has secured a European title, having previously finished as runner-up in 2022 and 2023.

Neil’s success follows recent sponsorship support from Questa. The backing from Questa is helping Neil compete in a series of major 2025 events, including the upcoming European Middle Distance Triathlon Championship in Pamplona, Spain, and the World Long Distance Triathlon Championship in Pontevedra, Spain.

Neil Hunter said: “It’s brilliant to get the year started this way – especially with so much more racing to come. I feel like I’m in a good place, and having Questa’s support has been a massive boost to this point.”

Neil will next compete at the European Middle Distance Triathlon Championships in Pamplona on 17 May 2025.
